Empowering Education through Data Literacy Integration in Compulsory Education

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Reference number: ERASMUS-EDU-2024-POL-EXP-DIGITAL – European Policy Experimentation in Digital Education

Project title:Empowering Education through Data Literacy Integration in Compulsory Education

Project Acronym: DATA-READY

Proposal Number: 101195801

In the modern digital world, the ability to understand, analyse, and use data is a key skill for education, professional life, and active participation in society. However, “data literacy” education has not yet been systematically integrated into compulsory education curricula in many European countries. The DATA-READY project aims to address this gap by developing an innovative policy for teaching data literacy, which will first improve the education systems in the partner countries and then across Europe.

The project focuses on enhancing data literacy skills among students in compulsory education (primary and secondary education) across Europe. To achieve this goal, the project will create a standardized and structured framework for data literacy education, which will serve as a guide for teachers and policymakers. Recognizing the critical role of educators, the project will provide training and resources for their professional development, enabling them to effectively integrate data literacy concepts into their curricula and pedagogical practices.

Through research, analysis, and experimentation, the project will produce evidence-based recommendations for policymakers at both national and European levels. These recommendations will inform policies and practices regarding data literacy education, ensuring a sustainable and effective implementation.

The main innovations of the project include:

  1. European Data Literacy Skills Framework for compulsory education, with defined domains, learning outcomes, and progressions.
  2. Education and Professional Development Programs for teachers at university and school levels.
  3. Assessment and Experimentation Tools for measuring the effectiveness of interventions.
  4. Policy Recommendations for the sustainable integration of data literacy education into national and European educational systems.
  5. European Community of Practice to ensure the continuity and scalability of the project’s outcomes.

The project is implemented by a collaborative network of organizations from five EU countries (Greece, Portugal, Germany, Poland, and Cyprus), incorporating multidisciplinary knowledge and experience to ensure the relevance and applicability of the results across different educational systems.

Implementation period: 01/03/2025 – 29/02/2028, 36 months
